Let’s Begin To Think…

Like many folks, the elections were the end of a “long road”. Lots of folks had ideas and thought process long before election day.

I have a number of friends who have had a lot of thought process and thinking about what could be better.

Course Hero tells us, “In general, there are four main purposes of government: to establish laws, maintain order and provide security, protect citizens from external threats, and promote the general welfare by providing public services.”

Many of my friends have different thoughts on what those things really mean. BUT, it is place to start.

20 years ago, I left “party politics” for the second time. The reason was I wanted to rent an office for $100 a month and invest in the education of the people about things like the Constitution.

(I think one of the best things we can do is educate people. Not to “our side” but to many of the things that have kept us on an even keel as a country in so many areas.)

One of my friends, Tom, is a strong thinker. (For months, he kept asking questions about the process and the people in an effort to get people to think.) This is one of his most recent posts.

Part 1

Policies that I believe the American People need – TB

This policy will be outlines as to my thoughts to keep it short. Can discuss my reasoning in comments or future posts. (We are going to provide a forum in some form or shape going forward. My largest problem with Facebook, other than their stuff, is people “like and move on” and don’t participate.)

Party and Voting Reform

1- Abolish the Two-Part system and replace it with a non-Party system made up of only individual ideas. This allows politicians to have their own ideas and to be accountable for their own ideas and voting patterns on policies. It’s a very transparent system of knowing the individual politician and politician working for the people.

2- Abolish the Electoral College and replace it with Rank Voting.

3- Abolish fundraising for elections and replace it with a tax payer funded account to be split up to all politicians. To start your political career, you will need to get enough signatures to qualify for the first round of money and so forth. Budgets are in categories of seats that are being sought. Every politician speaking a seat like senate will all have the same budget with no fundraising.

4- Institute a new website to house all politicians running and seated. This site will be one place for all Americans to view the candidates running local and national and their bio and political beliefs. It’s also a place for current politicians to have the same info but also all laws that that politician has to vote on and why they are voting for yes or no on.  (Publisher note-I would like to see line item voting.)

5- instate term limits on both House and Senate.

  • House would be every two years with 16 years max
  • Senate would be every 4 years with 16 years max
  • Leaders in either House and Senate will need 1 full term under their belt to hold leadership rolls. Rank voting for choosing leadership. If you last through the full third term then you receive a pension. Healthcare is what the American People have for options. A true non balanced budget extending 1 year over will result in 50% loss of pay unless the issue is brought to the people for a vote to wave the overage.

That is the end of Tom’s 1st part.
